Storagepipe Solutions provides world-class corporate data protection solutions including online backup and recovery, electronic archiving and business continuity.   Storagepipe allows small, medium and large businesses to decrease operations costs and complexity, optimize IT resources, reduce risks and liabilities, and protect more data more efficiently and reliability.  Storagepipe was the first Storage Service Provider (SSP) in Canada powered by an IBM infrastructure. Our company is comprised of professionals with over 20 years of experience in the industry. Storagepipe is offering a new level of protection to your critical business data and systems. It takes advantage of secure connections over the Internet to transfer data to and from our offsite facilities. Storagepipe's services give your organization the confidence that your data is secure, current, and always available. It also eliminates the need to manage backup yourself, allowing you to focus on your business.

Why use Storagepipe?
With growing importance of business data and the critical process that it supports, businesses are realizing that comprehensive data management is required to keep IT costs under control and ensure reliable recovery. By partnering with IBM, Storagepipe has been able to duplicate an infrastructure that is currently in use by more than 80 of the top Fortune 100 companies. Due to the high costs associated with purchasing and managing such an extensive infrastructure, most organizations are not in a position to implement a full-scale data management solution. Now with the advent of low cost - high speed Internet connectivity, Storagepipe has made this same technology available to businesses of any size. Organizations can now eliminate upfront costs, training, and obsolescence while taking advantage of our scaleable, reliable and secure solutions to backup and manage their critical business data.

What is a Storage Solution Provider? (SSP)

A storage service provider (SSP) is a company that provides computer storage space and related management and services to other companies. In addition to the storage itself, SSPs offer periodic backup and archiving with the ability to consolidate data from multiple company locations so that all locations can share the data effectively. Customers are typically billed on a monthly rate for storage and services.

Since Storagepipe transmits over the Internet, can't others access our data?
Our application creates a trusted session between computers. Each machine uses encryption for authentication. In addition, the client password is automatically rotated and encrypted for each session - it's never the same twice. Our application does not rely on existing authentication from an operating system, but has it's own comprehensive login and user privilege system.

What happens if I lose my connection?
Our application software will reconnect and resume from where it left off, automatically. Many customers are pleasantly surprised at the tenacity of the software in this regard.

How quickly can I restore my data?
Your data is kept online and available via a connected Fibre Channel SAN network.  The graphical user interface (GUI) allows you to select the data you want to restore by clicking to put a checkmark beside it, and then clicking on restore. A restore typically takes less than one minute to initiate, and finishes based on the size of the restore, and the speed of the connection.

Do I need to purchase any equipment or software?
No. Storagepipe's application does not require you to purchase any equipment or software.

Can I backup my mobile users?

Yes. Our software is designed to be dynamic and is an excellent fit for laptops and folks on the go. After an initial backup of all desired data, subsequent backups are typically a backup of 'changed data only' and represent a portion of a full backup. Storagepipe also provides continuous data protection (CDP) for users who are in need of a solution for files that are changing constantly during the day.

Dynamic scheduling is available so that if you miss a day or two, you will resume from where you left off the next time you backup.

What is incremental forever paradigm?
After a full backup, our application will only backup data that has changed. This is called an 'incremental forever paradigm'. Our software stores information about your data in a Meta database and is intelligent enough to reconstruct a file to a point in time, based on the changed data deltas it records. As a result, you receive a reduction in your backup window by up to 99% (changed data typically represents 1 - 2% of your initial backup). This means less bandwidth usage, and a larger nightly maintenance window for other things.

What is Point In Time?
Point in time means that you not only have the ability to restore your data to the latest backup, but you can also choose an earlier date. This can be handy if you're interested in a previous version of a file, especially after virus damage, or other data corruption scenarios. If a virus started destroying data two months ago, and wasn't detected, the latest backup of a file will not help you. With point-in-time you can go back to the pre-infected date of that file and restore as easily as you would restore a normal file. In an emergency, point-in-time is your best friend.

Can Storagepipe perform Bare Metal Restores?
Storagepipe offers Bare Metal Restores, and a number of other data management 'best practices' however, each environment is different, and we would recommend the Bare Metal Restore method that is best suited to you.

What about security?
We follow strict security protocols including the implementation of 3rd party security software and conventions. In addition our systems are hardened, patched and only run necessary services. Our facility is state of the art including security personnel, mantraps to the raised floor, video cameras, and physically locked cages.

How is the initial backup done?
The initial backup varies depending on the customer bandwidth capacity, and storage requirements. If the bandwidth is too small, or the initial backup is too large, a LAN less backup to a portable server via local area network is performed, and then the data is migrated to our main infrastructure. After the customer's initial backup is complete, incremental backups will start over the Internet. If these restrictions do not exist, the entire initial backup can occur over the Internet. Continuous or scheduled windows of backup time can allow an initial backup to occur over a number of nights, or a weekend.

How much data can we backup?
Storagepipe supports large enterprise customers with multiple Terabytes of data while also supporting small business customers with less than 10GB of data.  Our solutions for small businesses and mid-size and large enterprises offer flexibility, best-of-breed and right-sized  solutions for all our customers.

What happens if the backup is interrupted?
If the backup is interrupted, it will resume from where it left off. This is usually done automatically as soon as the reason for the interruption is fixed.

What if we get a virus?
Storagepipe will never open customer data so a customer's virus cannot infect us. In the event you have a virus, point-in-time restore capability is your best friend. If last night's backups are infected they become useless. Unless you have the ability to restore to a specific point in time, your data management solution has failed. Storagepipe provides point-in-time backups and recovery.
